Reporting to:  National Projects Team Leader


Full time post (35hrs per week), Permanent Contract

Salary – Grade IV Point 1 – €28,330


Location: Currently in Maynooth but Shine reserves the right to change location.

Headline is the National Programme dedicated to promoting and facilitating ethical and responsible media coverage of suicide and mental health issues.  Headline proactively collaborates with journalists and other media professionals to ensure responsible and ethical reporting of suicide and mental health issues in accordance with agreed national guidelines.

The Purpose of the Role

The primary purpose of the role will be to develop and deliver a dynamic media education package to media students. In addition, the post holder will manage and oversee the monitoring of outsourced media activity.

The Headline Monitoring and Media Students Education Officer will be a dynamic and energetic media professional who has a passion for positive change. He/she will have experience in print, broadcast and social media in Ireland or elsewhere.



Duties and Responsibilities

  • Review and analyse media coverage on mental health and suicide.
  • Collaborate with media monitoring organisations to assess adherence to media guidelines.
  • Manage contractual relationship with media organisations employed to monitor coverage.
  • Develop media alert / press releases as required.
  • Compile mental health themes and collaborate with media monitoring organisations to develop thematic content analysis reports.
  • Manage the Media Student Education function within Headline.
  • Work collaboratively with key centres of excellence to launch and develop Headline Learning.
  • Design and implement Headline Learning Pilot Program and conduct post launch evaluation.
  • Represent Headline Learning at external events and exhibitions as required.
  • Preparing reports, press releases and content to promote the work of Headline.
  • Liaise with external agencies and suppliers to manage Headline promotional and educational materials.
  • Assist in the management and ongoing updating and development of the Headline Website and social media platforms.

  • Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills.
  • Well-developed analytical skills and capable of critiquing research articles.
  • Experienced report writer with excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent presentation skills and experienced public speaker.
  • Skilled in building relationships with both internal and external stakeholders and in working collaboratively.
  • Highly motivated self-starter capable of taking the initiative while also working well within a small team.
  • Capable of managing multiple projects and working in a fast paced environment.
  • Proficient in IT and social media.

Essential Requirements

  • Third level qualification in Journalism or Media related field
  • Interest in Mental Health and Suicide Prevention
  • Full Drivers licence and use of own car
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in a similar role
