Mental health 'crisis house' will be open round the clock

Minister for Health, Dr James Reilly has said that 'a crisis house' that opens 24/7 will be made available for those experiencing mental health difficulties in Co Wexford. The Minister made the pledge in the Dáil last week following a question from Independent Deputy Mick Wallace, who enquired about the situation with mental health facilities in the county.
Warning over shock treatment consent

One-in-eight patients are getting electric shock treatment without their permission, a new report by Amnesty International has warned. The document has been submitted to the Department of Health, which is to carry out a review of the Mental Health Act 2001.

More than one-in-four young people has felt suicidal in the past, a new survey reveals. And one in five said they had self-harmed, the report into adolescent mental health showed. Although emotional distress is felt by both sexes, girls have battled psychological stress more than boys with nearly one in three admitting to feeling suicidal at some stage.
