Overeaters Anonymous are holding their annual Public Information Week from October 11 to 15. The aim is to raise awareness about Overeaters Anonymous (OA)and the solution that it offers to people with eating disorders.

The HSE's Mayo Mental Health Recovery Team in Mayo is organising a family education course 'Recover and the Family', as a result of relatives, friends and families who are attached to the service requesting more information and support.
Emotional wellbeing programme piloted in Galway schools

The first dedicated mental health promotion programme targeting five to seven year olds has been successfully piloted in Galway with three schools taking part.
Mental toll for breast cancer partners

Men whose partners have breast cancer are more likely to be taken to hospital with mental health problems than other men, according to a new study. Researchers followed more than a million men and found those whose long-term partners were diagnosed with breast cancer were more than a third (39pc) more likely than those whose partner did not have the disease to suffer an affective disorder so severe that they needed hospital care.

Call for more funds for mental health

The budget for mental health should increase in the coming year, Minister of State for Mental Health John Moloney said yesterday. Speaking at a conference on counselling services for Travellers in Dublin Castle, the Minister said in the context of a €600 million cut needed at the Department of Health, he would be making a case for increased funding in the mental health area.
Sligo health services struggling at the front line

More than one in five of front line jobs in mental health services are not being filled in the Sligo/Leitrim area as a result of the Government's two-year moratorium on staffing.
Health sell-off falls short

Only €10m has been raised this year from the sale of surplus hospital lands, instead of the €30m-40m for which the state had hoped — threatening government plans to replace Victorian mental institutions with new community facilities. John Moloney, the Mental Health Minister, said the development of a network of community nursing units and sheltered housing would continue to replace facilities condemned as "unfit for human habitation" by the inspector.

Stars lend support to suicide charily SOSAD

The occasion was a glamorous fashion extravaganza in aid of suicide charity SOSAD (Save Our Sons and Daughters). "Twenty grand was raised for such a heartbreakingly worthy cause," said organiser Amanda Kelvin.
