There was considerable under-reporting of suicide in official records between 1864 and 1980, a new report on the level of suicide and deliberate self harm in Ireland, published last week by the HRB has revealed.

One in 10 teens self-harms, survey reveals

The National Suicide Research Foundation (NSRF) says there is "an urgent need" to tackle the problem of self-harm among teens after a survey found about one in 10 are deliberately injuring themselves.

Drink lobby failure 'hit suicide rate'

The Government's failure to confront the alcohol industry lobby has contributed to the high number of young male suicides. That's according to a Health Research Board study which said reducing alcohol use was the only sure-fire policy that would prevent suicide.
