Care Alliance Ireland is a national network of voluntary organisations supporting family carers.
What we do
We aim to support organisations in their direct work of supporting family carers all over Ireland. We also provide information, education and training, regarding the needs of family carers; we carry out research relating to family carers, and promote inter agency collaboration.
The 2006 Census figures suggest that there are in the region of 161,000 family carers in the Republic of Ireland. Over one in ten women aged 40-59 report be a family carer.

EUFAMI (European Federation of Associations of families of People with Mental Illness) was founded in 1990 at a congress in De Haan, Belgium where carers from all over Europe shared their experiences of helplessness and frustration when living with severe mental illness. They resolved to work together to help both themselves and the people they cared for.
EUFAMI is a democratic organisation, registered in Belgium as an international non-profit organisation. We have an ongoing commitment to improving care and welfare for people affected by mental illness. We also enable our member organisations to act jointly at a European Level, combining their efforts and sharing experience.

GAMIAN-Europe (Global Alliance of Mental Illness Advocacy Networks) is essentially a pan-European patient driven federation of national organisations across Europe assisting people affected by mental illness, either as a sufferer or as a carers. We operate within the WHO European area and cover the whole range of mental illnesses. Some of the national organisations are disease specific, whilst others are umbrella groups covering the whole spectrum of psychiatry in their country.
