Headline received a complaint from a member of the public regarding the sale of ‘Fred’ dolls in Mr. Price stores nationwide.
The doll’s contained inappropriate messaging relating to medication for mental health disorders and was wearing a straight jacket.
Upon receiving an official complaint from Headline HQ, Mr. Price stores legal team responded with the following:
“In light of your email and recent complaints we have received please note that Mr. Price Branded Bargains has made the decision to remove all “Fred” dolls from sale.”
We would like to take the opportunity to thank Mr. Price stores for their quick response.
Headline Project Co-ordinator Jane Arigho said “We are delighted with the response from Mr. Price stores. We hope that this will lead to greater understanding of the stigma caused by items such as this and we hope that all retail outlets will give serious consideration to the effects of stocking stigmatising material in the future.”
She added ” We would like to thank the public for bringing this to our attention. It’s essential that members of the public highlight products like this in order to combat the stigma surrounding mental health in all its forms.”
