Make Your Opinions Heard

We believe that it is important to praise journalists when they get it right and let them know when they get it wrong. The more people that make their opinions on media coverage heard, the more impact it will have on journalists and broadcasters.

When contacting a media source about media coverage remember to:

  • Include as many details about the piece as possible (i.e. date of publication/broadcast, journalist/ broadcaster, headline etc).
  • Explain why you are writing and how the piece made you feel. Give details of what you thought was good or bad about the piece and why.
  • Respond to pieces as soon as possible.
  • For contact details click here

Please feel free to use these sample letters as inspiration for contacting the media to voice your praise or concern. These letters are intended as a guide for you to use. These sample letters are based on letters developed by See Me, a campaign to challenge the stigma and discrimination around mental ill-health in Scotland and are included on our site with the kind permission of See Me.

If you do not receive a response to your letter, or you feel the response is inadequate, you may wish to pursue things further by referring your complaint to a regulatory body
